How a machine gets here

From all over the country to one shop in Grafton, and back.

“Currently we do authorized repair … in every state in the USA.”ice-kold.com

A machine comes in from anywhere in the country and goes back out from one shop in Grafton, Wisconsin, guaranteed for a year. Four steps, and the first one is a form.

  1. Box it and ship it to Grafton.

“Download and print our E-Z Ship Form. Please complete and ship this form with your machine.” It goes to 1235 Dakota Dr., Unit P, Grafton, WI 53024. Out of warranty: “Please include on your P.O.” In warranty: “A copy of the customer’s invoice showing the purchase must accompany the above mentioned P.O.”

  2. A written quote within 24 hours of arrival.

“Once we receive the machine, we’ll send you a quote within 24 hours to help you determine whether or not it’s worth the repair.” “We will fax you a written estimate for your repair cost, before repairs are done.”

  3. Repaired and tested.

“We pride ourselves on a 10-day turnaround time that begins with the approval of our work estimate.” Repairs are made “close to factory specifications rather than just constantly buying and replacing machines.” “Same day service on emergency equipment repairs.”

  4. Back to you, guaranteed a year.

“All service work guaranteed 1-year.” That is “a one-year parts and labor warranty on repairs as well as a warranty on the cost of freon we put into any machines we service.” And if the quote is not worth it: “we’ll gladly dispose of the machine for you at no extra cost.”

Since 1979

Fredonia, then Cedarburg, now Grafton.

“Founded in 1979 in Fredonia, Wisconsin as Mid-State Refrigeration Systems, our business was centered on commercial refrigeration.” Supermarket refrigeration and walk in coolers came first; after five years, mechanical contracting as well: steam fitting, process piping, electrical and waste water systems.

In the early 1990s, federal rules on refrigerant handling created a new kind of repair work, and “our company was approached by White Industries, a division of Snap-On Tools, to do authorized repair work on their refrigerant recovery tools.” A new subsidiary took the Ice-Kold name, and the Kold-Draft ice machine distributorship for Wisconsin and Upper Michigan came at the same time. As recovery machine repair grew, Mid-State Refrigeration Systems was phased out.

The shop moved to “a modern 6000 sq. ft. building in Cedarburg, Wisconsin”, and then to Grafton, where the automotive side grew with it: “As our connections with the local automotive repair shops grew, so did the demand for our expertise in automotive air conditioning.” Ice-Kold, LLC has been a Wisconsin limited liability company since 2001.

Grafton, Wisconsin

A village that shipped to the whole country before.

Grafton is a village in Ozaukee County on the Milwaukee River, about 20 miles north of Milwaukee, with Cedarburg on its western edge. German and Irish settlers harnessed the river for mills in the 1840s, and the Grafton Flour Mill went up in 1846. The Paramount Records Legacy marker at Paramount Plaza tells the rest: “In 1917, Grafton's own Wisconsin Chair Company … began mass-producing and selling records as part of a sales promotion to sell their phonographs.” “From 1929-1932, more than 1,600 titles were recorded in Grafton including one-fourth of the country's gospel, jazz, and blues records.” “The Milwaukee River provided part of the power for the pressing plant, which employed hundreds of people.”

Encyclopedia of Milwaukee, “Village of Grafton”; the Paramount Records Legacy marker, Paramount Plaza, Wisconsin Ave., Grafton.

Common questions

The questions that come with a machine.

Short answers. If yours is not here, call the toll free line.

How do I send a machine in?

Print the E-Z Ship form from ice-kold.com and ship it in the box with the machine to 1235 Dakota Dr., Unit P, Grafton, WI 53024. An out of warranty repair goes with the form and your P.O. A warranty repair also needs a copy of the invoice showing the purchase, and it does not extend the unit’s original warranty.

How long does a repair take?

A quote goes out within 24 hours of the machine arriving, in writing, before any work is done. Once you approve the estimate, we work to a ten day turnaround from that approval. Same day service is available on emergency equipment repairs. Summers are generally our busiest time.

What does the guarantee cover?

All service work is guaranteed for one year: a one year parts and labor warranty on the repair, plus a warranty on the cost of the freon we put into any machine we service. If you decide against the repair after seeing the quote, we will dispose of the machine for you at no extra cost.

Which brands do you service?

The list on this page runs from Amprobe to White Industries and includes Robinair, Appion, Inficon, Promax, CPS, Bacharach and Fluoro-Tech. We are a factory authorized service center for most brands of refrigerant recovery equipment. Do not see your equipment on the list? Give us a call and we would be glad to talk about your equipment and options.

Do you do car A/C for the public?

Yes. We service automotive A/C on cars, trucks, farm equipment, limos, conversion vans and buses, foreign and domestic, at the shop in Grafton. Walk in customers are welcome, and in busy seasons it is best to call ahead for an appointment.
